Investigation of the Status of Foreign Trade in Eastern Cities of Iran Based on Documents (1889-1996AD/1306-1314 AH)
The British consulate in Mashad had two consul-generals during its first seven years of activity:les Smith Macklin and Ney Elias. Despite, the former was much more well known, the later seems to have a better management on consulate affairs. Preparing accurate field studies and analyses and thorough statistics, the British Consulate could assist high rank British political decision makers in India and England in taking active effective strategies in their economic competitions with other countries in East of Iran. Those reports helped the decision makers find a thorough understanding about the commercial position of the Britain and other countries in Mashad and other eastern cities in Iran. This information which led to appropriate economic decisions, included import/export goods statistics, introduction of transit roads leading to main eastern cities of Iran, and analyses of other competitors, especially Russia. There were also some other analyses in reports which could be of much help for decision makers. Almost all information was also presented in the form of tables. These reports could achieve to appropriately present Eastern Iranian cities economic and even social condition during years between 1889 to 1896.
