Characteristics of the King in Achaemenid Iran
Iranians have always believed that a king must possess qualities and qualifications that distinguish him from other people. These qualities are recognized as the specificacteristics of kings. Among these, the most important feature of an ideal king is his endorsement by God. This belief has long been ingrained in Iranian thought. For instance, in Achaemenid Iran, a king was someone who was not only chosen by Ahura Mazda and other deities but also had to possess additionalacteristics to ascend to the throne. Theseacteristics include lineage and blood, physical qualifications, and moral qualities such as courage, management skills, wisdom, and intelligence, among others.
